Girard College seeks an experienced Science Teacher for a regular full-time position beginning September 1, 2018. Our teacher will implement developmentally appropriate curriculum and instruction, aligned to discipline specific standards. Work collaboratively with teachers in other disciplines as well as the residential staff responsible for the high school students. Participate fully in the college academic and residential community. The position reports directly to the Head of High School.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Teach science courses that may include, Integrated Science, Physics and Astronomy to high school students in Grades 9 through 12.
Provide instructional leadership with a high degree of competence, adhering to high expectations within a student-centered, performance based context.
Manage the classroom in a positive, enthusiastic, and professional manner.
Have significant competency in integrating technology into instruction.
Facilitate and maintain appropriate communication with students, parents, administration and residential faculty with regards to student progress.
Complete all administrative responsibilities in a timely manner throughout the school year.
Support and encourage students in any assigned capacity including the advisory program.
Participate in all high school events.
Participate in all professional development activities assigned by Girard College.
Become involved with and supportive of the College community at large, its Mission and Vision, for the benefit of student social, ethical and intellectual education
Be persistent in attempting to identify and to put into practice effective methods or content which will support and enhance teaching and learning.
Model and maintain appropriate student behavior.
Develop and maintain constructive relationships with parents.
Other responsibilities as assigned.
Bachelor’s Degree in an appropriate science discipline, Master’s preferred.
Experience teaching Science required
Instructional Certificate required, PA Teaching Certification in Science preferred
Teaching experience at the high school level, especially in an urban setting
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
Proven ability to work collaboratively with all members of the community
Experience/ability to integrate technology into instruction
Consistently strong recommendations from previous employers and others.
Preferred - some competencies in a wide range of areas supportive of student learning e.g. coaching, club leadership, the arts.
Local candidates preferred as there is no relocation reimbursement available
This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
