Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy is current searching for a responsible woman to work in our Residential Life program. The role of the Resident Faculty is to foster a healthy and inclusive residential environment where each girl feels empowered to live comfortably and grow. This is a live-in position and requires a responsible, caring, energetic, and engaged professional who is interested in helping high school girls make connections, develop relationships, and navigate all aspects of community living. This position has experience in residential life and/or youth mentoring. This position is instrumental in creating a homelike atmosphere in the dorms as they are present in the students’ lives and available to regularly socialize and talk with students and help when advice is needed.
The position may also include 1-2 teaching loads and a 2-3 load equivalent of “on duty” Residential Life (RL) assignments: 1 load counts as approximately 8 hours of dorm duty per week (four hour shifts in the evenings during the week), plus one weekend shift each month. Weekend shifts are broken down into 1-48 hr. shift, or 2-24 hour shifts. When not “on duty”, the RL functions are sometimes performed from the employee’s dorm apartment so she must be prepared to share her personal space as well as the entrance and exit with the students and generally be accessible to students on a day to day basis to foster community and family lifestyle. Resident Faculty are also on call during the night in the rare event a student needed attention.
Essential Job Functions:
Leads a dorm family by serving as a Dorm Parent for a group of students. Must be regularly accessible to students when on campus, willing to share personal space, etc., to create a homelike environment.
Provides afternoon, evening and weekend duty supervision of the dorms;
Communicates all concerns promptly to the Director or Associate Director of Residential Life or another School Administrator if Director is unavailable;
Develops professional and personal relationships with students and parents;
Contributes to the provision of an environment which supports the academic, social, emotional and physical well-being and development of students;
Supervises, cares and accounts for the whereabouts of students; chaperones outings;
Occasionally transports students in a 9 passenger school vehicle;
Other Job Functions:
Teaches 1-2 classes at the high school
May be asked to advise a group of students (equivalent to about half the typical assignment; will be indicated in Exhibit A)
Participates in Residential Community events
Other duties as assigned
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
Bachelor’s degree; Master’s preferred
2-5 years high school teaching experience
Previous experience in residential life preferred
Have an energetic, caring and positive demeanor
Strong interpersonal skills, a sense of humor and a genuine interest in living and working with adolescent girls
Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and listening skills
Must hold a valid California driver’s license and have automobile insurance
