Westover School is seeking a Director of Summer Programs. This position plays a vital role in the development, marketing, and implementation of the school's revitalized summer residential and day camp programs. This position requires strong communication, interpersonal and administrative skills.
Westover previously hosted the Bolshoi Ballet Summer Youth Dance program and conducted its own small boarding/day program for middle school girls; due to renovation work on its main building, Westover has taken a hiatus from summer programming and is looking to reinvent its offerings.
Westover’s goal is to utilize its bucolic 140-acre campus to support both recreational and educational programs. Possibilities include a recreational day camp for younger students and boarding experiences for girls in grades 6-8, including a potential international/ELL program. Westover has programmatic expertise in STEM (its Women in Science and Engineering program), environmental programming (outdoors, beekeeping, ecology), drama, and dance and would like to develop immersive summer experiences in many or all of these areas.
Work with the Head of School, Assistant Head, Director of Communications and Director of Enrollment Management to develop a suite of summer programming for summer 2019, with a goal of both furthering Westover’s mission to educate girls while also creating new revenue streams for the School and drawing community members onto our campus
Collaborate with the above administrators and the Chief Operating Officer to create a summer program budget
Manage all aspects of the program including activity offerings, staff hiring, staff training, budget, supervision of staff, day-to-day operation, and serving as the Program Director during the summer
Work closely with the admissions office to create and execute a recruitment plan
Manage the configuration of the department's database for summer registration
Manage all required paperwork and approvals for the State of Connecticut
Work with transportation coordinator on transportation logistics
Assist in creating marketing and communications materials with the communications office to recruit and register families; support online/social media marketing efforts during programs
Work with internal departments such as Facilities to help prepare the school for summer programs
Respond to phone calls and emails; communicate with parents and answer questions
Assists families with summer camp registration
Experience with school-aged children and young adults
Demonstrated organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to prioritize work
Ability to work independently and perform with exceptional initiative and judgment
Strong marketing skills and customer-service orientation
Strong written and oral communication skills
Highly proficient in data management systems and computer applications (e.g., Google Suite, Word, particularly in Excel); willingness and ability to learn additional applications as needed
Willingness and ability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and select weekends
Commitment to being on campus during all active summer program weeks
Previous educational program development/summer program development or summer camp management desired
