Girard College is a full-scholarship boarding school for academically capable students from qualified families of limited financial resources. Girard College seeks an experienced educator for Assistant Dean of Students for Elementary/Middle Grades for a full-time, twelve-month administrative position. The Assistant Dean will report to the Academic Dean for the Elementary/Middle School and work with fellow administrators, faculty, and staff to develop the programs, policies, and culture to support student academics, wellness, growth and achievement that are aligned with the school’s mission and core values. The Assistant Dean of Students oversees school-wide positive behavior support, the attendance system, and the advisory program. The ideal candidate will also work collaboratively with members of the Campus Life staff to ensure that issues noted in the school day are properly shared for monitoring or action during residential hours.
Specific duties and responsibilities include: (but are not limited to)
Supporting student adoption of the core values as outlined in the student/family handbook
Assisting with positive behavior support planning
Supervising students on campus during school day
Collaboratively implementing the elementary/middle school tiered behavioral system with the Elementary/Middle School Academic Dean and the Director of Campus Life
Assisting Elementary/Middle School Academic Dean in developing new building policies and procedures as needed
Assisting with professional development of faculty around good classroom expectations and engagement
Researching and implementing the best practices that will ultimately foster positive student experiences
Conferring with families and students about conditions for student success
Resolving student behavior issues in a fair and timely manner and maintaining meticulous records of disciplinary actions or referrals
Monitoring the physical facilities of the school and striving to maintain a safe and secure learning environment while serving as official liaison for maintenance staff and security
Assisting with lunch duty and other student activities as needed
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in collaboration with faculty and staff
Baccalaureate degree in education or area related to student services required
Advanced degree or proof of enrollment in an advance degree program toward licensure in school administration
At least 3-5 years of experience in the classroom and administrative experience
Collaborative nature, positive disposition, sense of humor and ability to be calm under pressure
Superior skills in communication and technology including writing and public speaking
