POSITION SUMMARY / JOB GOALS: Teach General Music Education at the Elementary level in Violin and Orchestra utilizing TEK and National Arts Education Standards and Elementary Music Education methodologies to music students in small and large group style classes grades K-4. This position works with Coordinator of Music, colleagues and Director of Fine Arts to ensure appropriate String Pedagogy, the continuation of scope and sequence and vertical articulation of the Orchestral music curriculum.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Administer appropriate “Village School” curriculum which is aligned with the TEK and National Standards for Music Education.
Ensures all students have an opportunity to learn in a supportive and nurturing environment.
Creates and maintains positive and orderly learning conditions, utilizing positive Classroom Management skills and the “Capturing Kids Hearts” protocol
Creates, develops and implements effective, scope and sequence Lesson Plans from the TVS Curriculum, JCC and Curriculum Map, that are developmentally appropriate and builds on prior knowledge and learned skills and activities.
Analyze and report student progress utilizing authentic and application assessment practices
Integrate appropriate educational technologies.
Teaches skills in String understanding, performance and appreciation. Musical harmony, explorations in music and musical cultures appropriate to elementary school pupils.
Plans/executes a balanced General Music and Strings program
Organizes class time so that preparation, rehearsal and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.
Provides individual facilitation and small group instruction, in addition to whole group instruction, in order to adapt the music curriculum to the needs of the individual pupil.
Encourages students to develop their individual musical skills to the greatest extent possible.
Utilizes music literature throughout the repertoire including traditional, world and contemporary that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of pupils.
Maintains care/responsibility for school-owned music, musical instruments and equipment to prevent loss or abuse. Makes minor adjustments and requests repairs (or replacements) as required.
Evaluates each pupil’s musical growth, performance, and musical understanding through Authentic Assessment Criteria. Assesses each individual’s contribution to the performance of the group, and accurately reports them to the student’s parents and administration through grading practices and commentary reports.

QUALIFICATIONS / TRAINING:
Degree in Music (Orchestra, Strings) or Music Education - String Specialty
Preference given to State Certified, Music K-8 with String Endorsement, MME, and/or 3 years experience in same position

Knowledge of the Texas Essential Knowledge & Skills (TEKS) in General and Strings Music Education
Experience teaching General and String music classes to large and small groups utilizing differentiation using multiple tiered instruction for all levels
Experience creating and implementing a strengths-based arts curriculum for students
that provides opportunities for success through modifications and accommodations.
Experience collaborating with other teachers and team members to integrate the arts
across the curricula
Experience producing concerts and performances across grade levels
Experienced in multiple classroom management pedagogies and strategies
Experienced in grading and use of grading rubrics, markschemes and markbands
