MMI Preparatory School is seeking a full-time School Counselor.
Major Responsibilities of this position include:
Teaching Classroom Guidance Curriculum to 6-9th grade students.
Individual and small group counseling for students in 6-12th grades
Consulting and collaborating with students, parents, faculty, and staff to support the academic, social, and emotional achievement of all students.
Providing academic support and conducting check-in with students to assess academic needs. Checking grade books and consulting with teachers regularly, and meeting with struggling students.
Responding to students in emotional crisis and coordinating the school’s holistic response to it.
Establishing and maintaining communication with parents/guardians, including conducting parent conferences in appropriate situations.
Constructing behavioral management plans, as needed.
Pursue continuous professional development and growth
Completing paperwork for psychological evaluations and communicating with evaluators regarding scheduling of evaluation, results, and necessary interventions.
Make appropriate referrals of students and parents to outside agencies and specialists when necessary.
Made self a visible body in school by participating in a variety of activities.
Oversee the continuation of MMI’s peer tutoring program.
Work collaboratively with faculty regarding the effectiveness of the school-wide advisory program.
Minimum Qualifications: Education: Master’s degree in field of social services, including certification in school counseling
The ideal candidate will have experience counseling in a school setting as well as classroom teaching experience and a strong understanding of the developmental needs of early adolescents. This individual must have excellent communication and organizational skills and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, students, and families. Warmth, enthusiasm, and patience are highly valued.
