The Music Teacher will be a member of the Lower School faculty and report to the Lower School Head. This position is ideal for the dynamic and knowledgeable teacher who has experience designing and implementing music curriculum for Kindergarten through Third grade. The goal of the K-3 music program is to develop a love of music and to further the growth of music literacy in each student. There are four elements of music to which the students are exposed in the K-3 curriculum, singing, reading, and writing music; playing class instruments; listening to music literature; exposure to works of known composers. The teacher will work closely with homeroom teachers and other content area specialists. Teacher responsibilities also include participation in class outings as well as attendance at faculty and department/grade level meetings.
SCDS is seeking an energetic, collaborative music teacher for Kindergarten through Third grade. The successful candidate will have at least a bachelor’s degree and 3 years of classroom music instruction. A master’s degree is preferred. Experience implementing music curriculum through inquiry-based teaching and creative problem-solving is required. Academic or professional experience and interest in gifted education is preferred.
