At Purnell, Learning & Wellness are foundational to our holistic approach to supporting each girl socially, emotionally, and pedagogically. The School Counselor responds to individual students’ emotional needs and helps maintain a healthy and safe school community in which day and boarding students can thrive.
We seek a part-time counselor to be on-call 3 weekends this fall and 4 weekends in the spring. Weekend dates can be provided and are flexible.
Check in by phone to specific students three times a day from 6:00pm Friday – 6:00pm Sunday on “On-Call” weekends
When necessary, coming to campus to evaluate students who may be in crisis, making recommendations for acute care;
Consulting and collaborating with colleagues and supervisors, including the School Counselor, Educational Psychologist, Director of Student Life, Counseling Psychologist, and Head of School.
The Counselor must be professionally qualified and experienced in identifying and responding to students who exhibit emotional, psychological, and behavioral distress. A minimum of 3 years experience as a counselor or therapist in a school setting is preferable. The ideal candidate will have a master’s degree in school counseling or social work. A valid New Jersey professional license in counseling is required.
