Landon School, an independent school for boys in grades 3–12, in Bethesda, Maryland, seeks a full-time, experienced varsity basketball coach for the 2019-20 school year. The team competes as part of the prestigious Interstate Athletic Conference and annually schedules one of the toughest non-league schedules. The head coach directs and coordinates all aspects of the varsity basketball program and is responsible for overseeing all grade level teams in accordance with the mission of the school.
Key responsibilities include: preparing for and running practices, game day coaching, coordinating travel, monitoring of assistant coaches, managing appropriate media relationships, working with families of prospective student-athletes and other administrative tasks as assigned. The ideal candidate will fulfill the teacher-coach-mentor responsibilities and will promote character building, teamwork, and sportsmanship in accordance with Landon’s Code of Character.
To qualify for this position, a bachelor’s degree is required, and a master’s degree is preferred. The ideal candidate also has 3-5 years of successful high school coaching and/or college coaching experience including head coaching experience, a proven record of developing the whole person through athletics, and excellent communications skills. A driver’s license is also required.
