Charles Wright Academy is an independent coeducational day school offering a broad curriculum in the liberal arts. Founded in 1957, the school enrolls 660 students in grades junior kindergarten through twelve. We are located in a suburban neighborhood southwest of Tacoma, approximately 1 mile from Puget Sound and within the shadow of Mt. Rainier.

Summary: This position is a full-time, long-term substitute faculty appointment for the second and third trimester of the 2018-2019 academic year (approximate dates of obligation: November 26, 2018 through June 7, 2019). This position will teach four, possibly 5 sections of English to middle school aged students.
Responsibilities: * Provide a variety of learning opportunities, methods, and materials. * Encourages the growth of moral character. * Imparts enthusiasm for learning to students. * Acknowledges and plans for the diversity of abilities and learning styles within the classroom. * Provides and maintains a stimulating, safe environment. * Practices appropriate and effective classroom management techniques. * Conducts ongoing assessments of students’ development and growth and maintain record of such. * Maintains communication with parents to keep them abreast of students’ performance. * Communicates in a professional and timely manner with parents, colleagues, and administration. * Supervises students in all areas of the building. * Develops a team approach for research and research-driven instruction. * Attends all scheduled faculty and community meetings * Commits to fully participating in the life of the school
Qualifications: The successful candidate will have earned a bachelor’s degree in English or English Literature; a master’s degree is preferred. Candidate’s experience should show evidence of successful teaching in either a public or independent school setting. Familiarity with educational technology preferred. A sense of humor, ability to work cooperatively with peers, and a passion for working with older-adolescent children is essential.
