Germantown Friends School is seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and energetic chemistry teacher to join our full-time Upper School science faculty beginning in the Fall of 2019. This position is well-suited for motivated professionals who are looking for the freedom to teach unique and challenging chemistry courses at the introductory (10th grade) and advanced (11th & 12th grade) levels. The ideal candidate will have experience teaching a variety of high school chemistry classes, including chemistry labs, and will have a strong ability to collaborate with colleagues. Experience using Vernier equipment to collect and analyze data is desirable. Ability to manage and organize a large quantity of lab materials and equipment, including overseeing the organization and safety of the chemical stockroom, is required. Previous classroom teaching experience and a Master’s degree are preferred. An enthusiasm to engage in work around equity and inclusivity in an educational setting that includes a diverse student body is central to the position.
Specifically, this new teacher will:
Be able to teach in grades nine through 12, collaborating regularly with science colleagues on curriculum and lesson planning
Attend all core, advisor, departmental, divisional and all-school meetings
Meet regularly with school leaders as requested to discuss teaching work with students as part of the evaluation process at GFS
Write narrative assessments based on well-maintained records of student work and submit them in a timely fashion
Perform other duties associated with the position such as study hall proctoring, lunch-time supervision, and advisory work
Act as a homeroom advisor, meeting with students daily, acting as a mentor to students and first point of contact over student concerns
Attend Meeting for Worship once a week.
Regularly participate in school-supported professional development in the areas of teaching area content, pedagogy, and diversity, equity and inclusion
Participate in the life of the GFS community through collegial behavior and participation in committee work
