Sidwell Friends School, a co-educational Quaker day school in N.W. Washington, DC seeks a full-time Groundskeeper. This position is responsible for supporting the care and upkeep of all landscaped areas on the DC campus, and may occasionally offer support to the Bethesda, MD campus. Duties include the maintenance of existing landscape, including mowing, pruning, fertilizing, weed control, raking and general clean-up. Winter storms require clearing of snow and ice from all parking lots and walkways. The Groundskeeper will also support the upkeep of multiple athletic fields to ensure safety and readiness for play including game day readiness of fields, maintaining appropriate lines and checking of physical education and athletics equipment. He/she will also be expected to provide support for preparations for the many events held on campus. Often this will require tables, chairs, and other items to be placed in specific arrangements and be taken down at the conclusion of the event.
Occasionally, work will need to be done during evening or weekend hours when students and faculty are not present. Emergencies, snow clearing and after school events may necessitate some evening or weekend hours. Work is performed outdoors in all types of weather. Moderate to heavy physical effort may be required to move furniture, supplies and other items.
The ideal candidate will have 2-3 years of experience as a Groundskeeper and will also have a desire to work as a part of a close-knit team. Experience in athletic field maintenance is a plus. A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
