The part time Staff Accountant will maintain financial reports, records and general ledgers, and perform general accounting and bookkeeping functions and activities. This 12 month position will work between 20-24 hours per week.
Assists Controller with day-to-day, monthly and year-end operations of the Finance/Business Office.
Develops and implements systems and processes to establish and maintain records and ensure accurate and timely financial information.
Ensures that necessary supporting documentation and justification of AR/AP is maintained.
Supports the annual Financial Audit process, assisting the Controller with the internal preparation of documents and records.
Assists parents, on the phone and in person, regarding tuition and Incidental Account balances.
Assists faculty and staff with billing and reimbursement requests.
Posts and maintains weekly Accounts Payable records.
Handles collection activities as required.
Handles ad-hoc analysis and financial reporting as well as various clerical duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in business or accounting, and a minimum of 2-4 years of relevant experience in a non-profit or independent school environment preferred.
Demonstrated proficiency with Excel and knowledge of Blackbaud, Education Edge or Raisers Edge or other accounting software required.
Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with a diverse group of faculty, staff, students, parents and other constituents.
Knowledge of business accounting policies, procedures, and practices.
Ability to handle multiple functions and.
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to multi task in a busy office environment while maintaining the highest professional standards will be necessary for success in this role.
Ability to handle confidential information in a discreet and professional manner.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
Occasionally lift up to 30 pounds.
Generally works in standard office conditions and climate.
May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time.
