The Nurse is charged with documenting, attending to, and educating for the health and well being of the students, faculty and families at Bennett Day School. The Nurse’s Office is a space for care and compassion, as well as record keeping and Band Aid application. The Nurse is charged with assessing daily the health needs of students, developing emergency care plans and individual health plans. As a new school, the Nurse will be integral to ensuring compliance with the laws and school best practices relating to student health in a growing school. Essential work will also include building and maintaining confidential student and faculty health records using an integrated software system. The Nurse will provide health information and serve as a resource to students, parents, faculty, and administrators.
3+ years nursing experience
Knowledge and expertise in pediatric allergies and chronic illnesses, including the creation and implementation of treatment plans in a school setting
Experience in operating equipment used in clinical settings
Experience in operating standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications, specifically an Electronic Health Record (EHR) system; Magnus Health knowledge a plus
Knowledge and ability to tailor a new EHR to the needs of the school
Experience preparing and maintaining accurate records
Personable, warm, and approachable demeanor a must
Professional and school teaching experience preferred
First Aid, CPR and AED certified (qualification to train faculty a plus)
Nurse’s License from the State of Illinois; RN or APN required
Qualified candidates will have a Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in Nursing and minimum of three year’s experience as a nurse and/or school nurse.
School Nurse Certification PEL-CSN a plus
This is a year-round position
Provide healthcare, and administer first aid, to students and faculty when necessary
Research and develop or modify new and existing health policies.
Dispense medications, develop medication protocol to safely store, administer, document, and monitor the effectiveness of medication given at school.
Promote healthy living on campus
Communicate health updates, bulletins, and information with faculty and families
Prepare and maintain health records of students and faculty
Train faculty on pertinent subjects
Partner with parents and faculty to help meet the health needs of individual students
Oversee the administration of mandated screenings (e.g. vision, dental, hearing, etc.) for the purpose of referring medical conditions and/or providing appropriate care
Member of the Wellness Committee
Attend summer and school year PD, including New Faculty Orientation, beginning of the year All Faculty PD, end of year PD dates (TBD), and on and off campus PD.
