Reports To: Head of Lower School Start Date: August 2019 Position Description: Saint Mary’s Hall seeks an outstanding and experienced Lower School Spanish Teacher of excellent character with a vibrant classroom presence and a highly collaborative nature. The successful candidate should possess extensive experience in elementary Spanish curriculum design and classroom teaching, as well as native or expert-level proficiency in spoken and written Spanish. The ideal candidate will have a willingness to work with all divisions of the school Spanish program to support a strong vertical alignment and have a commitment to using a variety of pedagogical approaches in the classroom, including the ability to use technology effectively. Essential Functions: - Teach three levels of Lower School Spanish
- Work effectively as a team member of the World Languages & Cultures Program
- Support the efforts of vertical team planning and curriculum alignment
- Attend all required Departmental, All Staff and Lower School Division meetings
- Participate in requested professional development activities and seek out new opportunities for personal and professional growth
- Attend Project CRISS training during New Teacher Orientation
Credentials/Experience and Abilities Required: - Elementary teaching experience in a public or private setting
- A./B.S. required; M.A./M.S. preferred
- Expert-level written and oral communication skills in both English and Spanish
- Demonstrated experience working with flexible pacing, flexible instruction, acceleration, enrichment, differentiation, and independent study to meet student needs
- Demonstrated experience in the instruction of students with varied learning styles and levels of mastery
- Demonstrated experience in effectively solving problems through a positive, collaborative approach
- Have a clear understanding of the developmental needs of lower school students, and demonstrate a willingness to support and challenge students accordingly
- Demonstrated initiative and skills in the following areas: organizational skills, evidence of in-depth lesson plan development, and evidence of curriculum development
- Possess excellent classroom management skills in order to facilitate a safe, nurturing, and positive academic environment
Additional Responsibilities: - To be responsible for the care and maintenance of an orderly environment and clean classroom materials
- To be responsible for the safety and physical well-being of the students at all times
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: - To have an attitude of collegiality and to be able to communicate effectively and collaboratively with educational team
- To be able to build and foster positive, professional relationships with parents
- To be a positive ambassador for Saint Mary’s Hall in the larger community
- To be able to meet the demands and challenges of a fast-paced work environment and demonstrate flexibility as needed
- To possess a good working knowledge of and/or a familiarity with a variety of instructional technology such as Windows applications, iPad integration, interactive whiteboard, and student portfolio applications and a willingness to investigate and implement new tools
- To have a willingness to make cross-curricular connections between Spanish learning activities and learning in other subject areas
Physical Requirements and Work Environment: - Occasionally bend, stoop and squat
- Be able to occasionally lift up to 25 lbs.
- Work primarily in a traditional climate controlled environment
- Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including heat and cold
