The United Nations International School (UNIS) is seeking an individual with extensive curriculum development and leadership experience, preferably in an IB setting, to fill the role of the newly created Chief Academic Officer (CAO). The Chief Academic Officer is a member of the senior leadership team who directs the implementation and improvement of curricula and assessment of the effectiveness of curricula and instruction. The Chief Academic Officer will be responsible in translating UNIS' educational philosophy, goals, and objectives into effective educational programs.
The individual will act under the general direction of the Executive Director to provide leadership in planning, developing, maintaining, and evaluating the school's curriculum and instruction; will coordinate, organize, and perform duties dealing with instructional support, supervision, budgeting, and professional development; will be responsible for representing the best interests of the PreK-12 instructional programs; will provide direct supervision of staff responsible for curriculum and instruction development.
This role will report to the Executive Director and will oversee all student related offices including Director of Curriculum and Instruction, Curriculum Coordinators, School Health and Nursing, Office of Student Activities and Service Learning. The Division Principals will also report to the CAO on student related matters and initiatives.
Expert knowledge about best practices in curriculum design and instruction
Advanced degree preferred, preferably in curriculum and educational leadership
Successful teaching and/or administrative experience at both elementary and secondary levels
Successful experience as a Head of School , Assistant Head of School, and/or Principal
Experience as a pedagogical leader with a deep understanding of the IB Approaches to Teaching and Learning or similar rigorous programs
Strong leadership skills
Excellent written and public speaking skills
Outstanding organizational and planning abilities
Strong ability to work effectively with individuals and groups
Knowledge in the area of instructional methods and theory
Desire to serve as a team player
Ability to facilitate groups, problem solving and conflict resolution skills
