St. Paul Academy and Summit School is a coeducational, college preparatory day school for students in kindergarten through grade 12. The school serves approximately 920 students from throughout the metropolitan area of Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota.
SPA seeks candidates for the position of Upper School History teacher. This is a semester-long, full-time appointment to cover a sabbatical leave. The position begins early January 2018 and continues through the end of the 2018-2019 school year.
The ideal candidate will have strong academic training and relevant teaching experience in beginnings to early modern world history. Most importantly, we seek a candidate who has a demonstrated passion for history, and a track record leveraging this passion into effective practices which encourage students to think creatively, engage ideas deeply and lead with intellectual curiosity. A master’s degree in History is preferred, but not required. The most successful candidates will approach their role as an advisor with a drive to better understand the emotional needs of their students and support a program where self-reflection, empathy, and flexibility are the goals. Excellent interpersonal skills, including collaboration and communication with both colleagues and students, is required.
