TASIS, The American School in England, is an independent, co-educational school enrolling American and international day students in Grades Pre-K through 13 and boarding students in Grades 8-13. The Upper School, attended by 360 students, offers both the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program and Advanced Placement (AP) Program. Students are encouraged to take responsibility for the learning process and their consistently strong results indicate their preparedness for further academic study. The commitment to providing multiple pathways for learning, engaging in a variety of curricular and co-curricular activities and the focus on character development, community service, and an appreciation of beauty in the environment ensures that TASIS England students are well prepared for life beyond school.
TASIS England’s beautiful 42-acre campus, which includes two Georgian mansions, is located in the country village of Thorpe, only 18 miles from London. Founded in 1976 by Mrs. M. Crist Fleming TASIS London is a branch of TASIS The American School in Switzerland, established in 1956 as an experiment in international education designed to prepare students for American colleges and universities and to expose them to European cultures and languages. Today, both schools are owned by the TASIS Foundation, a Swiss, non-profit, educational foundation with a separate Board of Directors for each school. The TASIS schools and summer programs now collectively educate over 2,500 students a year. Educating students of 57 nationalities, TASIS offers a laboratory for international living, bringing students together from around the world.
Working collaboratively with the Head of School and Leadership team, the Head of Upper School assumes her/his role in five over-arching areas:
Shaping the vision and implementing the mission of TASIS England for the near-term, and long- term
Creating and maintaining a climate that is positive, productive, innovative and collaborative.
Cultivating and inspiring leadership in others.
Continually improving classroom practice, based on research, best practices and careful analysis of student assessment data.
Developing the relationships and reviewing the processes that lead to continuous development in all operational aspects of the Upper School.
