Director of Studies/Curriculum, ESL, Foreign Languages
We are seeking a Bilingual/ESL Program Coordinator for the Changzhou Global Academy in Changzhou, China.
This role is a 2-yr position based in Changzhou, China beginning August 1, 2019.
Lead, Coordinate and supervise the English Language Acquisition program.
Provide leadership for the development and implementation of an integrated (content and language) curriculum.
Develop and coordinate evaluation of the program and implement changes based on the findings.
Collaborate with department chairs, team leaders, and teachers in order to implement an integrated curriculum.
Serve as a resource on the WIDA standards and best practices in EL instruction.
Collaborate with instructional leaders in the selection of resources across the content areas.
Implement procedures and coordinate the process for identifying the language learning needs of students (including review of student data and assessment of students).
Collaborate with instructional leadership to develop and write a language level plan.
Assess and monitor the language level plan in collaboration with instructional leadership and faculty.
Assist teachers in the development of appropriate course work through curriculum modification and acceleration.
Assess and monitor the professional development needs of teachers and teaching associates.
Provide staff development to faculty and staff to:
increase their understanding of the integration of content/language teaching and learning
develop the skills for meeting the needs of the students
Assist in the orientation of all teachers, teaching associates, and other staff.
Assist in hiring, supervising, and evaluation of teachers and teaching associates.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School.
A master’s degree related to international education or its academic equivalent.
Demonstrated expertise in learning outcomes and level progression for ESL students.
Five years’ experience teaching ESL.
Experience in curriculum creation, planning, and implementation.
Experience living, working, or studying abroad.
Excellent command of the English language, written and oral, and effective interpersonal communication skills, including sensitivity and diplomacy in dealing with people from numerous countries and cultures.
Detail-oriented and ability to work independently without direct supervision.
Knowledge of a foreign language.
A record of active participation in appropriate professional organization(s).
Ability to train teachers in the AERO standards
Be familiar with ongoing WIDA assessments and be a proponent of sheltered instruction
Prefer SIOP training experience
