St. George’s School seeks an Episcopal priest to serve as Associate Chaplain, beginning July 2019. The Associate Chaplain reports to and supports the Chaplain in tending to the spiritual needs of people of all faiths on the campus. In addition to teaching and other residential program responsibilities, the Associate Chaplain works collaboratively with the chapel team and others in the community on Chapel services and other initiatives relating to the spiritual life of the school.
Specific responsibilities include the following:
Assist chaplain and chapel team in planning chapel services, including collaboration with the music/choral team and student leadership of Chapel
Co-manage student chapel group with the Chaplain; help students in planning student-led interfaith services
Assist in planning of special chapel services, including bringing guest speakers to chapel
Train and oversee student acolytes, greeters, and readers
Preach approximately two times per month during the Thursday service
Officiate at two Sunday services per month in the Little Chapel
Officiate at occasional wedding services over the summer
Teach 2-3 courses per trimester
Assist with Confirmation classes
Assist in providing pastoral care to students, faculty, and staff
Assist in developing and managing Community Service efforts
Co-curricular and evening duties as assigned.
Ordained to the priesthood in the Episcopal Church
Strong teaching experience, preferably at the secondary school level
Experience working with multiple constituencies, especially teenagers, ages 13-19
Strong preaching and pastoral skills
Experience in interfaith settings
Demonstrated cultural competency and commitment to inclusiveness (racial, religious, ethnic, gender, different abilities, etc.)
Familiarity with Episcopal traditions and liturgy
At least one unit of CPE
Musical abilities preferred
