Peddie School in Hightstown, NJ seeks an experienced and results-oriented communications professional to work collaboratively with multiple teams across the school to lead the communication efforts for the Office of Alumni & Development. The Manager of Content Creation for A&D serves a critical and collaborative role within the 16 member A&D office and reports to the Assistant Head for Development and the Director of Strategic Marketing and Communications.
Founded in 1864, Peddie School is an independent, coeducational, college preparatory school of 550 students, grades 9 through post-graduate. It is primarily a boarding school, with 63 percent of students and 90 percent of the faculty living on campus. In addition to its engaged and accomplished student body, Peddie’s extraordinary resources include the highly professional, collaborative and dedicated faculty, its innovative and rigorous curriculum and an attractive, modern 280-acre campus located midway between New York City and Philadelphia. This is an exciting time at Peddie under the leadership of Headmaster Peter Quinn who alongside Assistant Head for Development Karyn Vella have embarked on the largest comprehensive capital campaign in the school’s history.
We seek a communications professional, ideally with development expertise, who will support the work of the Alumni & Development Office and work closely with the school’s Office of Strategic Marketing and Communications. This position will conceive and implement communication strategies that strengthen relationships throughout the community for the Alumni & Development Office. Through the development of strategic and emotionally compelling appeals, alumni focused communication, and meaningful stories about life at Peddie, the ideal candidate will actively help strengthen the culture of philanthropy of the school.
Specific duties and responsibilities include:
Creating new and vibrant communications efforts to drive Peddie’s comprehensive campaign including print, web, social media, and other creative vehicles to engage volunteers, donors and prospective donors of Peddie;
Working with the Assistant Head for Development, create a communications strategy for ongoing outreach efforts with alumni, donors, and friends of Peddie;
Partnering with the Peddie Fund and Gift Planning teams, develop key messages and compelling materials including drafting Peddie Fund appeals, gift planning appeals and newsletters and Peddie Leadership Council collateral and written material;
Developing content on the alumni and giving websites that reinforce school priorities and the Peddie mission;
Working with the Office of Strategic Marketing and Communications to ensure consistent messaging and to leverage the school's various communications channels and materials including social media, the monthly alumni newsletter and our bi-annual magazine, the Peddie Chronicle;
Developing programming with faculty, staff, students and alumni to identify talking points for frontline fundraisers and story opportunities that support the school’s brand and priorities;
Participate in ongoing department-wide efforts, such as Reunion Weekend staffing, assisting with special events, etc.; and
Completes other duties, as assigned.
Skills and Experience:
Peddie is seeking candidates with:
Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills; ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team structure, and the talent to understand or anticipate the communication needs of colleagues;
Excellent writing skills for print and online; ability to quickly synthesize school-related topics into language that is accessible to general audiences; ability to create compelling stories;
Demonstrable skills in the areas of project management, creative design process, execution within deadlines and budget;
Detail oriented, well organized, focused and goal-oriented, flexible and nimble with a high level of initiative and energy is essential;
Strong personal integrity. Energy, creativity, and a tolerance for ambiguity. A sense of humor is a must;
Fluency with office software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Google, InDesign and Publisher;
Should demonstrate a genuine desire to engage broadly in the life of the school, have a willingness to interact with the internal and external Peddie community, and the ability to work occasional evenings and weekends; and
BA required, with three to five years of professional experience, preferably in education.
