Founded in 1968, St. James’ is celebrating its Jubilee year of providing an academically rigorous, student-centered and joyful school experience for preschool – sixth graders. The Director of Advancement oversees St. James’ fundraising efforts, particularly the $700,000 Annual Fund, a major gifts program and strategic initiatives as identified by the Head of School. The Director of Advancement supervises an Assistant Director of Advancement and an Advancement Associate. This position will commence on July 1, 2019.
She/He also works closely with the Director of Admission to steward the school’s marketplace position and brand management. She/He invests considerable time in relationship building throughout the school community, particularly with parents, past parents, and alumni. The Director of Advancement serves on the Senior Administrative Team and is regularly engaged with the Enrollment Management Committee. The Director of Advancement staffs the Advancement Committee of the Board of Trustees. She/He reports to the Head of School.
Minimum Requirements: • Minimum of 5 years of management-level experience in a related field including experience in fundraising and communications for not-for-profit organizations. • Proven success in building and stewarding an annual fund program of $700,000 - $1,000,000 • Experience in managing or integrally supporting a capital campaign • Experience in stewarding and expanding a major gifts program • Experience in managing or substantially supporting an alumni program • Consistent and proven commitment to collaborative leadership, problem-solving and working as a member of a team. • Highly successful at written and verbal communication; a deep curiosity around problem-solving • Proven success in managing or integrally supporting a school’s review of marketplace position & brand • A proven and successful administrator, ability to manage and grow a team’s skills, vision, and cohesion • Highly expert in technology, particularly in producing, synthesizing and reporting out on data • Ability to manage relevant reporting systems for tracking solicitations, pledges, and gifts • Experience in visioning, planning and managing large fundraising and cultivation events
