POSITION SUMMARY / GOALS: The Elementary and Middle School Drama and Theatre Educator teaches Drama, Musical Theatre, Technical Theatre and Theatre Theory in ensemble style classes at the Elementary and Middle School level. This position works with Coordinator of Theatre and Dance, and Director of Fine Arts, to ensure appropriate Theatre Pedagogy, with a continuation of scope and sequence and vertical articulation of the Drama and Dance curriculum. This is a Full Time position with Commensurate Pay, Benefits and Health Insurance, that carries with it the duties of teaching: Middle and Elementary School Drama, Directing competitive One Act Plays, Directing Dramatic Plays, or Directing/Co-Directing Musical Theatre Productions at the Elementary and Middle School level (See supplemental job description “Middle School VRT Director”.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Teaching of Performing Arts and Drama, including planning and preparing courses and lessons; setting and marking of work; and assessing, recording and reporting on development, progress and attainment.
Preparing pupils for public examinations, assessing pupils for the purposes of such examinations, recording and reporting such assessments and attending meetings connected with the conduct of public examinations.
Communicating and consulting with the parents of students, including the writing of reports and attendance at parents’ evenings and open evenings.
Maintaining good order and discipline among the pupils he/she is teaching.
Participating in departmental meetings and taking responsibility for noting points of action and effectively communicating with colleagues.
Working as a member of a team in the shaping of Departmental policy and practice, introduction of curricular initiatives, the preparation and development of schemes of work, units of study and methods of teaching and assessment.
Contributing to the provision of resources and teaching materials and taking some responsibility for care of stock.
Participating in appropriate administrative and organisational tasks in order to ensure the smooth running of the Department.
Taking responsibility for a designated area of the curriculum or curriculum innovation or project.
Keeping up to date with curriculum innovation, participating in arrangements for ProD, contributing to his/her own professional development.
Working collaboratively with support teachers in the classroom.Taking responsibility for the monitoring and support of a student teacher takinghis/her class (when required).
Setting work for his/her classes where absence is known in advance and setting work for absent colleagues where required.
Using a variety of teaching methods such as play readings, demonstrations, role-play, performances and discussions
Producing plays and sometimes recordings and videos
Using a range of materials including music and audio-visual aids
Organising and directing drama activities and encouraging self-expression in pupils - Some of these duties may be scheduled after normal teaching hours for either stipend or flexible scheduling hours
Setting assignments, projects, tests and exams, preparing and carrying out continuous assessment, marking pupils’ work and writing reports - Rigorous and academic
Preparing for and attending parent-teacher meetings and staff meetings
Sometimes supervising out-of-hours activities such as theatre visits, rehearsals, performances or social events.

QUALIFICATIONS / TRAINING:
Must hold a minimum of an undergraduate degree in Theatre or Dramatic Arts (Acting, Drama, or BFA in Performance, Technical Theatre or Stage Management) or Theatre Education.
Preference will be given to those holding a valid Texas Teaching License with the appropriate endorsement and authorization for the assignment, or, to individuals with commensurate experience of more than 3 years in Theatre or Drama education at the appropriate level.
Preference will also be given for those with commensurate experience in professional theatre
Preference will also be given for those with either a MFA - Acting, M.E. Theatre Education
EXPERIENCE / KNOWLEDGE:

Experience collaborating with other teachers and team members to integrate the arts
across the curricula
Experience producing concerts and performances across grade levels
