Serve as the educational leader for the Intermediate School, responsible for its day-to-day operation through
Articulate school goals, department goals, course objectives, materials, methods and means of assessment.
Function as the chief articulator of the division’s programs, expectations, behavioral guidelines and other information necessary to ensure that all constituencies are fully informed consistent with their individual roles.
Promote an environment in which learning can take place through the clear integration and prioritization of character development in and out of the classroom.
Supervise, manage and oversee the development of the division’s teachers and support staff.
Monitor student academic progress and advise on scheduling issues.
Keep parents apprised of changes in the student’s academic status and informed of the strategies that teachers and the Division Head, with the student, are using to address the problems.
Assist the Head of School with the hiring, dismissal, retention, and assignment of faculty.
Conduct regular staff meetings with faculty which will deal both with routine school matters that affect both students and faculty and with the stimulating exchange of ideas on issues of educational/philosophical interest and concern.
Oversee the coordination of the co-curricular and extra-curricular activity programs of the Intermediate School; assist in the planning and the presentation of school assemblies and programs; assist in maintaining a comprehensive calendar of school events.
Establish guidelines for proper student conduct and dress; maintain student discipline consistent with school policies; monitor students' adherence to established school rules; maintain accurate records of student attendance and citizenship.
Maintain a visible presence in all areas of the school; work toward a resolution of all problems - both routine and unique - as they arise; keep the Head of School informed of the general programs, activities, and problems of the Division.
Manage the division budget.
Collaborate with Head of School, and other members of the Leadership Team to develop and implement school wide programs that reinforce accountability, school culture, values, and participation.
Provide updates to faculty and staff to insure consistent communication and accountability.
Ensure safety and emergency preparedness for the Intermediate School.
Demonstrate enthusiastic commitment to maintaining and facilitating a positive school culture.
Oversee and facilitate communication between faculty, staff and parents.
Proven teaching, interpersonal, instructional leadership, people management and communication skills, preferably in an independent school setting
Has an in-depth understanding of grades 4-5 learning styles and differences, passion for curriculum development, up-to-date knowledge of best practices
Nurturing, patient, kind, organized, consistent, self-disciplined, encouraging, motivational, steadfast and attentive to detail
Advanced degree (Masters level) in education preferred
Superior organizational skills and the ability to work with a high level of consistency and integrity
Possesses a great sense of humor and optimism, along with an unbridled faith in students’ ability to learn and grow
