Dexter Southfield is seeking a Director of Facilities and Maintenance to lead the maintenance team. Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Director of Facilities and Maintenance will oversee and coordinate campus operations (including buildings, grounds, and vehicles) and ensure a safe and well-functioning environment that contributes to the growth and success of the students, parents, faculty, and administration of Dexter Southfield.
Open and inspect buildings and facilities for plumbing, cleaning, and overnight problems.
Schedule and direct all repairs to classrooms, offices, and equipment as required. Responsible for any minor changes to structures (painting, minor repairs, etc.)
Coordinate, oversee, and inspect work by outside contractors doing repairs and new building (roof repair, parking lots, landscaping, etc.)
Oversee setup for special events and school functions.
Coordinate deliveries and oversee storage and/or assembly requirements.
Maintain all data and records for the maintenance department.
Coordinate moves to be made within and between school, sites (e.g. summer Head Start program)
Health and Safety
Ensure facilities and equipment meet all federal, state, and local standards and regulations.
Respond to medical emergencies during school hours and be on call for facility-related emergencies outside regular working hours.
Oversee campus security, maintain security equipment, and supervise security staff
Manage facilities budget in coordination with the Business Office.
Procure and oversee contracts for heating, air condition, janitorial services, trash removal, pest control, snow removal, lawn care, and other contracts pertaining to safety and maintenance needs. Review contracts with the Business Office for updates, changes or extensions.
Define and implement long-range plans for capital improvements in conjunction with the Director of Operations and Building & Facilities Committee.
Work with Director of Operations to recruit, train, and supervise maintenance personnel.
Oversee and schedule work for maintenance personnel.
Appraise maintenance personnel job performance; review descriptions, goals, and expectations
Work with Director of Operations and the Director of Human Resources to align department goals with the School’s strategic plan.
Provide regular and timely status updates and improvement plans for facilities to the Director of Operations and the Facilities Committee.
Review the condition of classrooms and offices with teachers and staff on an annual basis for improvements and repairs.
Provides a quarterly written report on facilities and maintenance activities for staff and parents.
Serve as a liaison between constituents of the school, both internal and external, and the school’s administration and/or Head of School, as appropriate, in order to address questions, concerns, or issues.

Bachelor's degree required in a related field; advanced degree preferred
Maintenance/construction supervisory experience
Understanding of building code, fire code, and school regulations
Understanding of Microsoft Office systems and etiquette (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)
HVAC, OSHA, lead, and asbestos abatement certifications highly desirable
Familiarity with SchoolDude maintenance software desirable
Site safety/security experience
This is a year-round, full-time position. Occasional evening and weekend work will be required to assist with special events. On-site, campus housing (single-family home) may be available.
