The Fenn School seeks an individual to lead its mathematics program as Mathematics Department Chair. Within the context of Fenn’s educational philosophy, each department chair is responsible for curricular leadership and curriculum development; departmental staffing; faculty supervision, evaluation, and professional growth; budget oversight; and student placement and support. Additionally, academic department chairs teach two to three sections of their subject, coach and advise.
Qualified candidates will have a rich educational background in mathematics, significant teaching experience, and a familiarity with current best practices for helping boys to become confident and successful problem solvers. An ability to foster connections between mathematics and other academic disciplines is also desired.
Fenn has been recognized for its leadership in diversity and multicultural education, and the School is fully committed to a culturally diverse faculty and student body. A successful candidate will therefore be a proactive and collaborative educator who believes in the importance of diversity in the life of a school and can support Fenn’s mission and work well with students, parents, faculty and staff. The School is also eager to consider applications from traditionally underrepresented groups.
Specific skills, in addition to those mentioned above, include strong written and verbal communication abilities, ease and experience with using educational technology (Fenn has a formal one-to-one student iPad program in grades six through nine and an informal program in grades four and five), and effective organizational skills.
Interested candidates are asked to submit a letter of interest, resume, statement of educational philosophy and contact information for professional references via email attachment to Nat Carr, Interim Co-Director of the Academic Program, at the following email address: firstname.lastname@example.org. Receipt of materials will be acknowledged via email.
