The Allen-Stevenson School, founded in 1883, is a K-9 independent school for boys with an enrollment of 418 students. The school seeks candidates for the Lower School Teacher Librarian position within our dynamic Library Tech Commons team. This full time position will begin in August 2019 and is eligible for our complete benefits package. We seek innovative self starters who are eager to work in a school for boys and to collaborate a great deal with colleagues. The ideal candidate will have more than three years of demonstrated success in leading a program within a school library. An extensive knowledge of children’s literature is essential, as well as a strong interest in exploring and using technology in education. We seek applicants who will actively support our school’s mission, vision, and community statement and who are enthusiastic and supportive team players. This position reports to the Director of Library Tech Commons.
Plan, teach and evaluate literature and library orientation classes in the Lower School
Co-plan, co-teach and evaluate inquiry/research classes in the Lower School
Co-plan, co-teach and evaluate digital fluency classes with the Lower School Technology Integrator
Develop new curriculum materials and initiatives to promote reading
Develop the Lower School library collection, with an emphasis on books that support the curriculum, promote cultural competence and develop a love of reading
Provide readers’ advisory
Assist teachers and parents in matching boys with the right books
Take part in planning and running the annual Book Fair and Book Week
Help to maintain the Library-Tech Commons website
Co-plan and present at faculty meetings and at Tech Tuesday presentations to parents
Maintain a well-organized and appealing Lower School Library Reading Room
Assist with the circulation of books and maintenance of materials
Participate fully in the initiatives of the Library Department, the Library Tech Commons team and the Lower School and take an active role in school improvement
Qualifications and Experience
3-5 years teaching experience preferred

Utilizes in-depth knowledge of digital teaching tools and the online world inhabited by students
Creatively constructs a fun learning environment, possibly using art, drama or music
Displays strong classroom management skills
Exhibits a high level of patience, is skilled as a mediator

Brings new ideas to the team
Is a clear, consistent and respectful communicator
Maintains a positive attitude and regulates emotions

The final candidates will complete a process that includes a telephone interview, an interview with the Director of the Library Tech Commons, some group interviews and a demonstration lesson.
