POSITION TITLE: Middle School Social Studies Teacher

The Walker School Middle School is seeking a qualified, experienced Social Studies teacher to join a dynamic Social Studies Department for the 2019-2020 academic year. We are looking for a teacher who uses developmentally appropriate pedagogy to fully engage students at all levels and to encourage problem-solving, critical thinking and collaboration. Salary will be based on degrees and years of experience.
Duties and Responsibilities
Teach five sections (80-100 students total) with one or two different class preps
Maintain regular communication with parents and students
Participate as a coach or extra-curricular sponsor of student activities
Fluency in MS Office, especially Word and PowerPoint
Stellar written and verbal communications skills
Seek and utilize opportunities for professional growth to remain current in curricular, technological, and pedagogical technique
Update student performance in a timely fashion
Respond to all emails and phone calls in a timely fashion, usually within 24 hours
Meet with families as needed
Attend department, division, and all-school meetings
Meet with Grade Level Dean, Department Chair, and Learning Specialist to discuss students in academic difficulty or need to fulfill graduation requirements
Serve as grade level advisor
Passion for history and ability to help middle school students realize its relevance to their lives
Willingness to collaborate and pursue on-going professional growth
Track record of innovation in the classroom
Ability to effectively teach formal writing and research skills
Bachelor’s Degree or higher, preferably in the Social Sciences
*Preference will be given to candidates interested in contributing to the full life of the school through coaching at the Upper School or Middle School level.
