Poly Prep seeks applicants for the position of Assistant Head of School, Academics. This role will assume primary responsibility for the School’s Pre-K to Grade 12 curriculum and instruction, building consensus to articulate a vision of Poly’s academic program that capitalizes on internal professional expertise, and current research and best practices.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
Lead appropriate parties to build consensus around institutional teaching and learning objectives, with a vertically integrated, interdepartmental, and interdisciplinary focus.
Oversee and implement the School’s professional growth and evaluation process to place greater responsibility on the teacher as a continuing learner and to implement a process that is both growth inducing and reflects the differentiated needs of faculty at different developmental and career stages.
Manage the professional development program for faculty to ensure that curriculum and professional development grants serve the academic program and meet the differentiated needs of all teachers.
Manage the hiring process for teaching faculty in partnership with Human Resources, Division Heads and Department Chairs, and work with these colleagues to ensure the appropriate orientation, mentorship, and supervision of new faculty.
Oversee curriculum design, implementation, documentation, articulation, and assessment.
Convene, support, and supervise 11 Department Chairs to forge an academic leadership body that plays a key role in identifying and advancing the School’s instructional objectives.
Directly supervise: Division Heads; Head of Athletics; Head of Arts; Director of Diversity, Equity and Social Justice; Director of Service Learning; and Director of Sustainability. Ensure appropriate supervision of Department Chairs, head nurse on the Dyker Heights campus, and school psychologists, and co-supervise Middle and Upper School Deans program.
Other duties as assigned by the Head of School.
Education: A minimum of a Master’s Degree is required.
Experience: A minimum of 10 years’ experience with demonstrated experience in classroom teaching, curriculum development and managerial experience.
Specific Skills: Demonstrated skills in educational leadership, curriculum development, collaboration, and consensus-building skills required.
Special Requirements: Travel as needed to perform duties across both Dyker Heights and Park Slope campuses. Travel will be required for professional development and recruitment.
