Devon Preparatory School a Catholic, college preparatory school for young men in grade six to twelve, is seeking a full-time general handyman to join our Facilities Department to start immediately. This is a twelve-month position.
The position of General Handyman will report directly to the Facilities Coordinator. The position will perform daily maintenance functions in classrooms, administrative offices, etc., under the direction of the Facilities Coordinator; these duties consist of general maintenance duties and can include any or all of the following list of essential duties and responsibilities:

Basic carpentry work
Perform other related duties, as assigned
RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHERS
Devon Prep’s Facilities staff has frequent encounters with visitors, students, faculty and staff throughout the campus. It is important to maintain a helpful, positive demeanor while interacting with these individuals. The General Handyman reports directly to the Facilities Coordiantor but may be directed by other Administration during the day if emergencies arise.
NATURE OF SUPERVISION
The General Handyman is supervised directly by the Facilities Coordiantor and takes direction when needed from the Director of Operations.
BASIC JOB REQUIREMENTS
Some knowledge of institutional maintenance.
Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
Must be able to operate or learn to operate basic tools and equipment used in the maintenance trade.
Complete daily work log
Complete required paperwork/reports as requested.
Must be safety conscious and aware of basic safety precautions.
Must be able to lift, push, and pull a variety of tools and equipment.
Must be able to lift at least 100 lbs.
Must be self motivated and able to work with limited supervision.
Must be able to work within the industry without adverse reaction to common materials encountered during the performance of duties.
Ability to work within and uphold the philosophy of the institution, observe institutional regulations and cooperate fully in the operation of the institution.
The General handyman should have at least three (3) years in a General Maintenance position, working in an institutional environment, trade or vocational school graduation or an approved apprenticeship or equivalent on the job training. A positive attitude and strong work ethic are also very important performance of job duties may require driving a school vehicle. If so, a current driver’s license is required as well as acceptance by Devon Preparatory School’s automobile insurance company.
