High Point Academy seeks a full-time Director of Curriculum and Instruction beginning in the 2019-2020 school year. The Director of Curriculum and Instruction will be a member of the administrative leadership team and serve as a collaborative, empathetic, and inspirational leader of High Point’s entire curricular program. This individual will play an important leadership role in developing, enhancing, and evaluating the school’s K-8 curriculum and instruction and be responsible for facilitating both horizontal coordination and vertical scope and sequence. The Director of Curriculum and Instruction will also ensure that curricular implementation remains at a high quality and work in partnership with faculty in support of achieving their professional growth and development goals.

In collaboration with the Head of School, Assistant Head of School, and administrative team, oversee the ongoing journey to further deepen and strengthen the academic vision for High Point
Facilitate teacher training, mentoring, and coaching, including promoting professional development
Lead the K-8th grade curriculum mapping process to establish vertically aligned K-8th grade curriculum in all subject areas that reflects best practices and clearly identifies student learning opportunities and outcomes
Help to oversee faculty hiring, assessment, and evaluation
Help ensure students’ academic success, including identifying instructional strategies that will meet the needs of gifted learners and students in need of additional support
Coordinate and design ongoing faculty professional development
Oversee academic and co-curricular programs and after school enrichment programs
Support the development, implementation, and evaluation of student learning experiences, assessment methods, and curricular paths
Participate in student life and other campus activities as a full and active member of the High Point community
Advanced degree in education or educational leadership from an accredited college or university required. Minimum of ten years professional experience as a lead/independent classroom teacher and other leadership roles in an elementary and/or middle school.
Strong technology skills and familiarity with integration of technology
A deep understanding of contemporary research and professional growth programs that champion forward-thinking independent school teaching and learning practices
A commitment to diversity and fostering culturally competent and inclusive classrooms
Experience creating different modalities of professional growth opportunities for administrators, teachers, and students, and a successful track record sustaining the momentum of those professional development programs
Experience teaching a variety of grade levels
Highly knowledgeable regarding standards and standards-based teaching
Familiarity with the following programs preferred: Daily 5/Cafe, Readers and Writers Workshop, Balanced Literacy, Social Emotional Learning, Responsive Classroom, and Project-Based Learning
