Poly Prep seeks applicants for the position of Head of Lower School. This role is responsible for the planning, design, vision, and implementation of the Nursery through Grade 4 program. This includes directing the scope and sequence of the elementary curriculum, hiring of faculty, and the day-to-day operations of the Lower School.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
Act as the educational leader of the division by maintaining congruency between the School’s mission statement and all activities of the Lower School division.
Maintain teacher evaluation schedule, and supervise curriculum review, in addition to monitoring scope and sequence in Lower School and between Lower and Middle Schools.
Set and maintain calendar with Assistant Head of School, Academics. This includes scheduling all Lower School events in consultation with the main campus calendar. Prepare calendars for faculty and families.
Meet with Admissions to discuss engagement of families by conducting presentations to prospective families, discuss student enrollment status, and assist in candidate evaluations.
Review reports on student progress. Consult with teacher, school psychologist, and learning specialist on individual student needs.
Maintain relationship with speech and language consultant and occupational therapist.
Organize workshops, conferences, and school visits to keep current on curriculum.
Coordinate monthly newsletters from homeroom and special subject teachers to families.
Hire faculty for appropriate opening. Assist in hiring of operational and administrative employees.
Help establish and monitor Lower School budget with the Assistant Head of School, Finance.
Approve all Lower School expenses with regard to classroom and office purchases. Work with Head of Campus Operations on Lower School capital expenses.
Review salaries with Assistant Head of School, Academics and Assistant Head of School, Finance.
Approve and disperse professional development funds in consultation with the Assistant Head of Lower School.
Work with Parents’ Association and parent volunteers on annual and special events, i.e., Pumpkin Patch.
Work with Communications on an as-needed basis.
Maintain and establish relationships with local community organizations.
Work with Operations and Business Office to coordinate building projects.
Partner with Advancement to engage families, faculty, and staff in fundraising opportunities.
Other duties as assigned by the Head of School.
Education: Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree in education or school administration preferred.
Experience: minimum of 7 years’ experience as a lead teacher along with a minimum of 3 years’ experience as an administrative leader.
Specific Skills: Proven success working collaboratively in educational leadership, written and oral communication skills, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills required.
