The Kingswood Oxford Teaching Apprentice Program provides aspiring teachers an opportunity to be an integral part of an independent school community while gaining the skills and experience necessary for their own professional growth. In order to facilitate experiential learning with time for reflection and mentoring, Apprentices team teach 1-2 classes (paired with a veteran faculty member) and increasingly assume the professional independence and responsibility of a Kingswood Oxford faculty member. Apprentices also learn about and practice their craft through involvement in co-curricular activities (including athletics), where, with the help of seasoned faculty members, they learn to manage groups of students, work towards long-term goals, and plan daily activities for student improvement and growth. In addition to weekday lunches, housing, and a stipend, Apprentices receive professional development in the form of participation in a week-long orientation program before the start of school and monthly workshops on a variety of topics.
