Summary: This is a full-time faculty appointment for the 2019-2020 school year. The position includes music instruction for Pre-K through 5th grade. This position could also be a 75% faculty appointment teaching grades 1-5.
Responsibilities: - Implement a music curriculum in Preschool through 5th Grade, which includes choral singing, Orff and percussion instruments, and instruction in basic musical concepts appropriate to the grade and developmental level of the students - Use a variety of instructional methods to create dynamic, engaging lessons, which support a diversity of learners - Impart the love of music and inspire students to participate fully - Direct the 4th and 5th grade choir - Prepare several concert opportunities throughout the year - Collaborate with homeroom teachers to coordinate learning experiences - Collaborate with the Lower School Director to include community singing in the Lower School’s weekly Town Meetings - Collaborate with the performing arts department - Oversee the private piano program - Practice thoughtful, respectful, and effective classroom management techniques which support active learning and promote responsibility and self-management. - Supports positive student behavior for all of the Lower School students throughout the school day - Attends all faculty and community meetings. - Participates fully in the life of the school.
Required Qualifications: - Bachelors of Arts (in Music or comparable degree or experience), a master’s degree is preferred - Preschool-5 Classroom music teaching experience - Choral directing experience - Piano proficiency - Effective classroom management skills - High ethical standards and discretion - Cultural competence, particularly in relation to curriculum development, and a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion - Flexibility to work some nights and be present at specially scheduled weekend events.
Preferred Qualifications: ? Guitar skills - Orff or Kodaly training - Familiarity with Google G-Suite for education, ?Skilled in Microsoft Office suite of applications and web-based software. Experience with Veracross preferred. - A sense of humor. - An energetic, positive team player. - A commitment to diversity and inclusion with a strong sense of cultural competency is desired. - The ideal candidate has the desire to work resourcefully and positively with a wide community of constituents in support of the school’s mission to students and their families.
