Hutchison School, a PK2 - 12 school for girls, seeks a full-time upper school History teacher for the coming school year. High school teachers typically instruct five sections of approximately 18 students each and are responsible for teaching academic and creative writing, literature, and vocabulary. Candidates should be conversant with current practices in literacy education including areas such as student-centered instruction, literature circles, workshop approaches to writing, and methods of including a variety of literary styles, genres, and levels of difficulty. Upper school teachers also supervise an advisory group, perform duties such as carpool and study hall oversight as necessary, and sponsor clubs and organizations.
The ideal candidate will have experience teaching middle or high school History in an independent school setting and will be comfortable teaching girls in a student-centered environment. A Bachelor’s degree is required and advanced degrees are preferred. Candidates should be passionate about both the field of History and the development of adolescent learners.
