Position should appeal to applicants interested in contributing to a program that creates an intentional curricular bridge between Lower School literacy and Upper School English expectations in terms of process, content, and skills. Successful candidates will demonstrate an enthusiasm for the Reading and Writing Workshop model, and they will embrace opportunities to work with middle-school students (grades 6-8) as they develop meaningful reading and writing lives. Candidates prepared for this position expect to collaborate with team members, working effectively with colleagues to plan and design a developmentally appropriate curriculum that puts students’ skills and choices front and center.
In addition, successful candidates should demonstrate the ability to establish a supportive and engaging classroom environment for students and to work collaboratively with parents/guardians. They will possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and have experience and a desire to work within diverse communities and across cultural difference. Candidates should be able to advise students effectively and otherwise contribute to the life of the school outside the classroom. Training and experience in Developmental Designs for Middle School preferred. Candidates should support the mission of SPA and the vision of the Middle School.
