Savannah Country Day School is a premier independent, college preparatory school located in Savannah, GA. We are seeking a dynamic Head Varsity Football Coach who is a positive motivator and dedicated to developing young men of character. Our football program is on the rise, has qualified for the State Football Playoffs the last 3 seasons and is positioned for continued growth and success. We are seeking a strong, experienced coach to lead our football program and build on our recent success.
Duties and Responsibilities
Serve as the face and leader of the School’s football program, including the Varsity, Junior Varsity and Middle School programs.
Coordinate with our strength and conditioning coaches to continue to improve the performance of student athletes both in season and out of season including summer workouts.
Manage and supervise the football coaching staff and all football activities, contests, and practice sessions to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, discipline, respect and sportsmanship.
Coordinate closely with the Director of Athletics to maintain and grow a strong culture of Education Based Athletics driven by our core values and a winning mentality.
Work with the Heads of Upper and Middle School to consistently balance the demands of student athletes with the rigorous academic demands of an elite college preparatory school.
Ensure that football coaches at all levels work together toward a common goal within the football program and provide unity with the feeder programs.
Set goals and establish performance criteria for competition and evaluate individual student athlete performance on a regular basis.
Coordinate with our Athletic Trainers and take all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of student athletes.
Maintain all equipment and materials and coordinate with the Director of Athletics and Head of Operations to prepare, maintain, and improve athletic facilities.
Organize and direct our football summer camps.
Coordinate with Division Heads and the Director of Athletics to monitor and enforce student eligibility criteria for extracurricular participation and ensure adherence to all GHSA bylaws.
Coordinate team travel and meals and supervise student athletes during athletic competitions on out-of-town trips
Assist, instruct and facilitate college recruitment for student athletes that aspire to play at the next level.
Promote school spirit within the context of the academic mission of the school and the athletic department, as a whole.
Encourage sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation.
Establish and maintain open communication with parents, students, administrators, and teachers.
Maintain the football budget and a current inventory of all football uniforms and equipment.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics and/or Head of School. Duties could include teaching, administrative duties or work in other school areas based on school needs, experience and aptitude.
Experience, knowledge and demonstrated success as a head football coach and/or coordinator.
A bachelor degree or higher.
A willingness and ability to serve in an administrative role, teaching capacity at the high school or middle school level or other school position based on experience, aptitude and interest.
Integrity and a positive, energetic and motivational coaching style that balances winning with the education of young men with character.
Strong leadership, communication and organizational skills.
A deep understanding of all aspects of the game of football and the ability to teach fundamental skills and team concepts.
Knowledge of fitness and strength training regimens appropriate for high school athletes.
A desire, willingness and ability to mentor and connect personally to young people.
Excellent listening and communication skills.
An ability to work effectively and collaboratively with coaching peers in other sports.
An understanding of and sensitivity to the rigorous demands of an independent school.
