Germantown Academy, located in Fort Washington, Pennsylvania, is seeking qualified, experienced candidates for the position of Director of Facilities, beginning June, 2019. This is a 12-month position which offers an excellent array of benefits and a highly competitive salary. The Academy, founded in 1759, is a non-sectarian, coeducational, college preparatory school of more than 1,100 students in Grades PK-12, located in the northwest suburbs of Philadelphia on a campus of 126 acres.

Qualified applicants will meet the following criteria:
Position Purpose: Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Director of Facilities will manage and oversee all aspects of facilities, parking, maintenance and security the Academy’s 126 acre campus.
Oversee the ongoing and planned maintenance, renovation and renewal of all buildings and grounds.
Manage the annual Lavino Trust including all required annual inspections and reports.
Serve as the Academy’s project manager for all capital projects.
Directly manage and evaluate the Supervisor of Building and Grounds, Mailroom Manager and Director of Security. Provide direction to establish work priorities.
Annually review employee performances for all direct reports; provide or request training programs as needed.
Monitor and maintain the Academy’s FMX software, a web-based maintenance and scheduling program. Provide FMX support and training to staff and the GA community as needed.
Organize and review bidding processes for any contracted services or projects.
Work with Chief Operating Officer in preparation and management of maintenance budget including monitoring of all related utilities and Facilities Committee project expenses.
Monitor performance of outside contractors and address any issues in a timely manner.
Prepare the agenda and required back up material for Facilities Committee meetings.
Serve as an integral member of special event planning and rental of facilities committees to include organization of set up/break down, staffing requirements and coordination of the involvement of other departments and outside contractors.
Ensure consistent, effective communication to the School community for all matters related to facilities/physical plant
Meet bi-weekly with COO and Director of Operations to review facilities related issues.
Meet formally, no less than weekly, with Direct Reports.
Serve as a member of Operations Committee, Plant Committee, Facilities Rental Committee, Safety Committee, and One-School Committee.
Work with Director of Safety, ensure all requirements are met to maintain certification by State of PA.
Be available to report to work at any time to handle emergency situations.
Participate in the development of policies and procedures that affect the use of facilities.
In conjunction with the Housekeeping manager and Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds, establish and implement an effective summer and non-school day program of specialized cleaning and repairs.
Work with the COO to develop the School’s five-year facilities plan.
Bachelor’s degree preferred along with a minimum of 10 years management experience.
Preference for individual who has management experience in an Independent School.
Demonstrated facilities management experience.
Able to interact effectively with a wide variety of audiences including school administrators, vendors, and board members.
Budget management and budget analysis skills required.
Strong organizations skills with ability to effectively manage projects and priorities and ability to adjust to ever changing demands.
Demonstrated competency in Excel, and Word.
Must possess strong interpersonal skills.
Strong verbal presentation and written communication skills.
Proven ability to supervise and manage a large team and to build strong working relationships.
