Founded in 1952, Norwood School is a coeducational, independent day school with approximately 450 students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. Position and Qualifications
Norwood has an opening for a middle school math coordinator beginning in the 2019-2020 academic year. Norwood’s middle school includes fifth grade through eighth grade, and our math program creates mathematical thinkers who have deep conceptual understanding, computational fluency, and confidence in applied problem solving. Based in Bridges Math and Glencoe Math, the program at every grade level is child-centered, engaging, and rigorous. Beginning in sixth grade, students have the opportunity to pursue an advanced curriculum that culminates in honors geometry in eighth grade. Responsibilities for this position include:
Teaching three sections of math in seventh and/or eighth grade.
Providing strategic support, guidance, and coordination for all teachers of math in fifth through eighth grade (approximately seven teachers).
Overseeing the process by which students qualify for advancement in math.
Leading math clubs.
Collaborating closely with the lower school math coordinator to ensure programmatic and instructional cohesion school-wide and to plan professional development.
Other duties connected to being a full time faculty member in the middle school.
Applicants must have at least 5 years of experience teaching math to middle school aged children. Strong applicants will have experience leading the design and implementation of math curriculum, and a demonstrated commitment to cultural competency and to cultivating a diverse, equitable, inclusive, child-centered community. Additional qualifications include excellent communication skills, flexibility, organization, a sense of humor, and a love for working with young children.
