The High Mountain Institute (HMI) seeks a full-time Director of Development to oversee a development program that raises between $1,000,000 and $1,500,000 annually. This senior-level role at HMI also facilitates communications and marketing and supervises alumni relations. The responsibilities range from strategic to operational, from big-picture to the smallest details. The position will begin between January and July 2019, depending on the preferences of the ideal candidate.

Lead HMI's annual fundraising campaign
Oversee donor appreciation and acknowledgement, including annual report
Oversee management of capital and major gift campaigns, including case statements, brochures, solicitations, and website
Conduct prospect research
Build relationships with major donors and other school constituents
Lead foundation relationships and grant writing
Manage development events
Supervise Alumni & Development Associate
With Head of School, make asks for major gifts
5 weeks of travel per year (TBD)
Depending on experience and interest, leading wilderness expeditions and advising students will be considered
Participate in administrative on-call duty
Manage HMI database
Oversee creation and publication of the HMI bi-annual newsletter
Work with HMI’s graphic designer on all print pieces; work to ensure consistency between programs and alignment with HMI’s brand
4-6 weeks of vacation per year

Qualifications: BA or higher, 3-5 years prior experience in the development field, experience in independent schools or the non-profit sector, enthusiasm for the benefits of traditional and experiential education, and a desire to think of him or herself first and foremost as a team player; criminal and driving background checks required.
