Overview: The Stony Brook School, a historic Christian 7th-12th Grade Boarding and Day School located on the North Shore of Long Island is seeking a Director for its Upper School starting July 1, 2019.The Upper School at Stony Brook is tenth-twelfth (10-12) grades and represents 250 boarding and day students. Reporting to the Campus Head, The Director of Upper School position is a front line, hands-on position which requires a seasoned, skilled leader who is able to inspire trust and confidence in students, teachers and parents alike through wise, firm and nurturing oversight of the division.Previous experience in a residential setting is strongly preferred.
Responsibilities: The Director is responsible for all activities and operations of the Upper School in furtherance of the mission and purpose of the School.These include but are not limited to:
Establish and maintain the tone and culture of the Upper School Division
Work in conjunction with the Associate Head of School and the Academic Dean to oversee and develop faculty in the Division
Determine both disciplinary standards and consequences for violations
Enforce student discipline
Coordinate all parent contact and communication related to Upper School students
Plan/Coordinate/Lead student assemblies for the Upper School Division
Lead Honor Council
Oversee Division compliance with all New York State safety laws- fire drills, intruder drills etc.
Oversee Student Advisory Program and Learning Services Program
Committed follower of Jesus Christ
3-5 years of leadership within a school setting (preferably in a residential setting)
Masters degree or higher
Demonstrated passion for and skill in working with teenagers
Excellent communication skills
Highly organized and detail oriented
Familiarity with Blackbaud school management software preferred but not required
