Shady Side Academy is seeking a Director for its Junior School After-School Explorers program and In-Service Day Programming. Shady Side Academy is a pre-K-12 independent school with an enrollment of 900 students on four campuses. The After-School Explorers program occurs at Shady Side Academy’s Junior School in Point Breeze with an enrollment of 260, and provides daily enriching and engaging programs for 115 students in pre-K through grade 5. The well-trained and experienced staff includes members of the Academy’s faculty as well as others with years of experience.
The successful candidate will have:
Experience in planning and supervising activities for students PK-5
A depth of knowledge and understanding of young children and PK-5 educational trends
The ability to manage, motivate, and recruit staff
An energetic innovative vision for growing the program
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Strong computer skills and the ability to track data and create reports
The ability to work in a dynamic environment and still accomplish objectives
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to adapt to a fluid environment
The demonstrated ability to supervise complex operations, including a budget of approximately $175K
The capacity to professionally represent the Academy to parents and other community members
This person will assume direct responsibility for the planning, execution and supervision of all activities for our After School Explorers program, which includes programming during In-Service Days. Lunch is included when school is in session, and full health and retirement benefits are available.
The individual will report to the Director of Programs, but will also work closely with the Junior School Head and Faculty.
Duties for this position include:
Oversight of the day-to-day operations of the After School Explorers program and In-Service Day Events. This includes programmatic design, fiscal oversight, development of rules and procedures, and managing part-time staff members and faculty.
Coordinating transportation and shuttle services between campuses
Hiring, training and evaluation of faculty and staff members for after school positions.
Tracking and submitting weekly payroll
Communicate regularly and professionally with administration, staff, faculty, and parents.
Planning and implementing enrichment classes with faculty and vendors
Creating and monitoring registration through the Camp Brain system.
Working with the Director of Programs and School Heads to develop innovative curricula.
Programmatic development of two weeks of “Break Camp” during Winter and Spring Break.
BA/BS in Elementary Education or related educational field; Master’s preferred.
At least 3-5 years teaching experience. Experience with children in informal settings (e.g. camp, after-school) preferred.
