Chelsea Day School, a nursery/Pre-K in Manhattan for children ages 2 through 5, seeks a dynamic and outgoing Director of Development and Community Relations to handle fundraising responsibilities and donor relationships within their community. The ideal candidate will have excellent relationship skills, a deep passion for early education, and a willingness to serve alongside the Head of School and senior leadership as a face of the organization. This person should be a presence in the school and have the ability to work collaboratively yet independently off-site.
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
Strategic planning and oversight for all existing fundraising efforts, including operating support (unrestricted and restricted), capital, and foundation/corporate giving.
Recruiting, managing, and training fundraising volunteers
Communicating fundraising cases, goals, timeline, and progress to HoS and Board of Trustees
Preparing fundraising materials (including appeals, brochures, volunteer guides, recognition publications, annual reports, campaign reports, and other marketing materials in print and online)
Cultivating, stewarding, and maintaining relationships with all donors and prospects.
Expanding and growing the school’s culture of giving by educating the Chelsea Day School community about the impact of philanthropy on the student experience
Management of donor database and online giving pages
Auditing, reconciling, and acknowledging of all gifts and assisting with annual audit
Building and conducting a prospect research program
Assisting with special events (including annual auction, benefits, cultivation events, stewardship events, and donor recognition events)
Establishing engagement opportunities with alumni and their parents
Establishing a grandparents giving program
Performing other duties and tasks as necessary
Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in not-for-profit/development roles
Excellent verbal, written and phone communication skills, as well as strong interpersonal skills and an ability to interface professionally with a broad range of school leaders, volunteers, parents, students, alumni and their families
Experience building and growing an annual giving program
Collaborative team player and experience with motivating and partnering with large groups of volunteers
Familiarity and experience with a CRM software, experience with data analysis, gift processing and donor acknowledgement
Proficiency with MS Office Suite, especially Excel, and familiarity with Adobe products
