BB&N is seeking a full-time Lower School Reading Specialist. This position is part of the Lower School Support Services Department and includes collaborating with the Grade 3 through Grade 5 homeroom teachers to support students within those grades as well as collaborating with other grade level reading and learning specialists. Responsibilities include working with teachers for use of best practice to improve student learning, supporting student assessment, teaching small and whole groups when necessary, documenting student progress and needs, and conferencing with students regarding their reading, writing, and ELA skills.
In addition, the LS Reading Specialist responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Resources, strategies, and support for reading and writing related concerns
Assessment data and interpretation for teachers
Assistance for parents who are in search of ideas for summer literacy and writing support
Community and school based engagement (such as faculty meetings, participation in admissions work, leading/co-leading Affinity Lunch etc.)
The ideal candidate should have a minimum of two years teaching plus training in multi-sensory language programs. A Master’s degree in Reading, Reading Specialist, Special Education or comparable area is preferred.
