Miami Country Day School seeks an enthusiastic and creative educator to fill the role of Upper School Chemistry Teacher to begin August, 2019. Although a Chemistry Teacher, this person must embrace STEM education and find ways to integrate an interdisciplinary curriculum between STEM and other domains. This person needs to be passionate about inquiry-based, student centered learning and be committed to combining the power of forward-thinking skill development with the purposeful integration of research based learning. Candidates need to be dedicated to the challenge of thinking of education in an outside of the box way. We seek an Upper School Chemistry Teacher who embodies our mission and who is passionate about working with our students and faculty. We are accredited by FKC, FCIS and SACS; active membership is maintained in SACAC, NACAC, NAIS, SAIS, CASE, CRIS, ERB, ALA, and the College Board.
To work with a collaborative team designing, organizing and implementing curriculum that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. The position involves teaching five sections of primarily Upper School Chemistry, being an academic advisor to a group of 12-14 upper school students, and being an active participant in the Science, Mathematics and Technology Department.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND TASKS:
Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning, preferably using the Understanding By Design model of instruction.
Use relevant technology to support and differentiate
Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures.
Participate in department, school, and parent meetings.
Communicate student progress and needs regularly to students, colleagues and parents
Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
Observe and evaluate student performance and development, providing timely feedback to students and their parents.Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic and ability backgrounds.Participate in appropriate professional activities.Perform supervisory duties as assigned.Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
BA or BS in Secondary Science Education or Chemistry, and/or FL secondary state certification
Completed or in-progress master’s degree in science, chemistry or education is preferred but applicants with extensive, successful teaching experience are encouraged to apply.
AP teaching experience is preferred.
Masters is preferred
Teaching experience, preferably in an Upper School, or relevant classroom experience is recommended
Experience teaching in an Independent School preferred
Proven ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis.
Perform all other related work delegated or required to accomplish objectives of the school program.
Knowledge and implementation of relevant technology.
Must be able to use computer for communication and instruction.
Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer, hand-held learning devices and other office equipment, and reach with hands and arms.
Work in a fast-paced, stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines and a varied and diverse array of contacts.
May work long hours for extended periods of time.
Be able to 20 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
Work in varied and extreme weather conditions, including extreme heat.
We are accepting applications from teachers experienced in high school laboratory chemistry. This exciting opportunity will require a depth of scientific knowledge, understanding of subject content, and a strong background in mathematics. Miami Country Day School has a laboratory-based science program centered on creative, non-scripted approaches to curriculum design and teaching.
