The Substitute Teacher supports the overall positive experience of students and faculty in the Lower School, Middle School and Upper School in matters regarding the management, administration, and organization of all the division’s curriculum program and personnel. The Substitute Teacher embraces the vision, mission, core values of the school and the Portrait of the Flint Hill Student. The Substitute Teacher reports to all division Directors and is a ten-month position.
Responsibilities and Duties
Helps the Lead Teachers in the classroom by supervising the classroom
Helps the children to think creatively, to solve problems independently and respect themselves and others
Maintains an attractive, well-kept classroom that encourages children to create, explore and make decisions with confidence
Ensures that children are actively engaged in a safe, organized, stimulating learning environment
Actively develops and maintains positive parent relationships
Takes attendance in the classroom
Implement existing lesson plans, ensuring the integrity of academic time and motivating students to learn and participate
Maintain the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which assigned
Follow the lesson plans provided by the absent teacher
Interact in a professional manner with students and parents
Encourage, monitor and promote student progress
Maintain student confidentiality
Oversee student behavior in the classroom, during lunch, activity periods, and out-of-class settings
Provide a brief report in writing on the day's activities at the conclusion of each day for the teacher
Work cooperatively with all school personnel
Other duties as assigned.
