International School of Brooklyn seeks a dynamic, hardworking, full-time Middle School Math Teacher for the 2019-20 school year and beyond.
The ideal candidate is one who understands and enjoys young people (ages 11-14), who loves math, and who inspires students to love it as well. Other ideal attributes include commitment, patience, positive energy, a sense of humor, and clarity – the ability to explain math in a way that anyone can understand it.
The teacher should be capable of teaching any course from 6th Grade Pre-Algebra through 8th Grade Algebra 1. The individual will likely teach four sections – with no more than three preps.
Description of position
Teach 6th, 7th, and/or 8th Grade Math class
Serve as advisor (homeroom teacher) each day
Potential for leadership role in Math Department
Teaching experience, preferably in the independent school world; experience teaching in an IB school is a plus;
Degree in mathematics or related subject or significant experience/skill with math;
Supportive, student-centered approach and ability to differentiate instruction;
Desire to mentor students in an advisory role outside the classroom;
The teacher should model and promote integrity.
