International School of Brooklyn seeks a dynamic, hardworking, full-time Middle School English Teacher for the 2019-20 school year and beyond.
The ideal candidate is one who understands and enjoys young people (ages 11-14), who loves English literature and writing, and who inspires students to love them as well. Other ideal attributes include commitment, patience, positive energy, a sense of humor, clarity, and impeccable writing skills.
The teacher should be capable of teaching 6th, 7th, or 8th Grade English. The individual will likely teach four sections – with no more than three preps.
Description of position
Teach 6th, 7th, and/or 8th Grade English class
Serve as advisor (homeroom teacher) each day
Classroom teaching experience; experience in an IB school is a plus
Degree in English or related subject or significant experience/skill in English
Supportive, student-centered approach and ability to differentiate instruction
Desire to mentor students in an advisory role outside the classroom
The teacher should model and promote integrity
