The part-time School Counselor will provide holistic & proactive services which contribute to each student’s educational, vocational, & personal/social development. The School Counselor will be required to be on campus one day a week and attend significant events throughout the school year.
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:
Oversee Peer Counseling program
Serve as a resource and advocate for students/families in need/crisis
Handle parent concerns related to the mental development of their child
Support faculty as needed with questions about student mental development
Refer families to mental health professionals for care when appropriate
Other duties as delegated by the Dean of School Life
Students in the school community
Ability to work on confidential issues regularly. Make evaluations and recommendations regarding students. Analytical thinker with the ability to assess situations accurately and act accordingly.
Experience as an independent school administrator preferred
Excellent interpersonal skills, including strong conflict resolution
Excellent collegiality, professionalism, and organizational ability.
Superior oral and written communication skills
Strong understanding of the culture and goals of independent schools
Ability to meet deadlines and work efficiently and effectively within a team-oriented, fast-paced work environment
Ability to work well with teenagers and their parents
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Ability to use sound judgment and work independently
B.A. or B.S. Degree in appropriate field, M.A or M.S. preferred
