Middle School Health and Physical Education Teaching Position
The School: Founded in 1911, Columbus Academy is a PreK-12 coeducational college preparatory day school of over 1,070 students located on a 231-acre campus ten miles from downtown Columbus, Ohio. Student programs are organized into three divisions: Lower School (PreK-Grade 4), Middle School (Grades 5-8) and Upper School (Grades 9-12). The Position: Columbus Academy seeks a full-time Middle School Health and Physical Education teacher who will coach a varsity sport with responsibilities to begin July 1, 2019.
Qualifications: Preferred candidates will posses the following qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Health or Physical Education or a closely related field
Passion for teaching and coaching
Knowledge of varied pedagogy and trends in physical education/coaching instruction
Leadership qualities to inspire, motivate and develop students
A reflective practitioner, committed to a continuous process of self-improvement and lifelong learning
Enthusiasm, a positive sense of humor, self-confidence, and effective oral and written communication skills
Position Expectations: The individual selected to this position will be expected to carry out the following responsibilities:
Teach in multiple grades with an awareness of the developmental needs of pre-adolescent children
Assume a share of supervisory responsibilities expected of all faculty members
Collaborate with departmental colleagues on curriculum design and development
Provide periodic updates to parents about student progress, via both written reports and in-person conferences
Hold students accountable for Columbus Academy’s standards of behavior
Work with others in the school community to support each student’s emotional well-being
Manage and coordinate all aspects of the high school football program
Recruit coaching staff
Responsible in planning and executing all practices
Assist the Athletic Department in scheduling
Demonstrate positive leadership
Recruit student-athletes within the school
Physical Education position is required to coach two sports
Physical Conditions: Candidates must be able to manage the following conditions:
Mobility around school buildings and on different floors (handicap accessible)
Periodic need to move light furniture, hang visuals in classroom, carry objects (no more than 40 pounds), etc.
Ability to manage non-smoking environment
